What is Practica La Ligera?

Let's start with the name. Why La Ligera?

For us, La Ligera refers to LIGHTNESS. Taking things lightly, being light on your feet, the lightness of being. It is a nod to the weightlessness of moving across a dancefloor as well as a contrast to the heaviness we sometimes feel in formal settings. As we learn and grow, lightness is a kind way of treating others... and of treating ourselves. It illuminates what once was dark. Lightness is delicate and nuanced, precise and sensitive. Lightness is sharing vulnerability. For these reasons, it is an approach not just to tango but to life.

And now, why a Practica?

A practica is an informal place for dancers to refine their skills, explore their creativity, and deepen their connection with tango. Because it is liberated from the traditional formality of a milonga, experimentation with movements, connection, and musicality often flourish here. A practica is about giving and receiving guidance between people at all levels of the dance. It is equally for refining technique and trying something brand new; it is for relaxed social interaction as well. A practica is a place where we surprise ourselves.

With that in mind, we invite you to simply relax & enjoy yourself at Practica La Ligera.

Every Sunday, beginning June 4th, all tango folx (and the tango-curious!) are welcome to join. This will be a safe, inclusive space & a no-pressure environment that welcomes experimentation within a consensual framework. Our rotating cast of instructors will provide a Tango Fundamentals class before the practica; if you are new to tango or would like to strengthen your dance foundation, come join us. We'll have live music, a raffle, and surprise workshops in the future too, so follow us on social media to stay updated!

And as with other Alt Tango events, our goal is to host spaces where we would want to dance, and we're learning as we go. If you have suggestions or comments about how to make a more enjoyable event, let us know!

See you on Sundays!
